Actors are supposed to be overjoyed when their shows are renewed for another season, right?

Ordinarily, yes. But that wasn’t the case for Constance Wu…

The Fresh Off The Boat star made her feelings about the sitcom being renewed for a sixth season very clear on social media, which had fans scratching their heads in disbelief and confusion…

“So upset right now that I’m literally crying,” she wrote.

“Ugh. F**k” and “F**king hell,” were also some of her comments.

She also commented “Dislike” under an Instagram post about the show returning for another season, which some fans of the show were less than happy about…

“Saying ‘dislike’ to this news is a slap in the face to everyone who works behind the scenes to make your show as powerful and groundbreaking as it truly is,” one disgruntled social media user commented.

“Because the show was renewed an entire crew gets another year taking care of their families, putting their kids through college, getting medical insurance and saving for retirement. This reeks of someone out of touch and ungrateful.”

So why was she so upset to have the show renewed?

Constance Wu – who rose to even greater fame after appearing in last year’s box office hit Crazy Rich Asians –took to social media to clarify her comments.

And it turns out that her issue wasn’t directly with Fresh Off The Boat itself (phew!) but with another project, which she has had to miss out on due to FOTB commitments…

“I love FOTB,” her statement began.

“I was temporarily upset yesterday not because I hate the show but bc its renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about.

“So my dismayed social media replies were more about that other project and not about FOTB.

“I was disappointed in not being able to do that other project – because that other project would have challenged me as an artist.”

We understand where she was coming from – no one likes missing out on exciting new projects.

But we’re glad that she doesn’t hate the show, and we’re even more glad that Huang family matriarch Jessica Huang will be back for yet another season!

Do you think the actress could have handled her disappointment better?
